Our team spends an afternoon at Edmond retirement communities — cookies, conversation, and good company. No membership required. Someone nominates a community, we show up, and the visit is the whole point.
A family member spent an afternoon at a retirement community for a school service project. Handmade cards, cookies, good cheer. An hour, signed off, service hours met.
Here’s what stuck.
The cards did matter. Residents read them, kept them, talked about them. But what she talked about for days afterward was something else. How glad people were that anyone had come at all.
She came home full of other people’s stories. Where they’d worked. Who they’d married. What their children were doing now. How one resident’s father helped invent panty hose. That one might be a tall tale. Nobody minded.
Somewhere in that afternoon it stopped being a box to check, and the students walked out as glad as the residents were.
That’s the part worth building on. Not the cards, not the cookies. The fact that both sides left better than they arrived, and all it took was somebody showing up.

We could have left it at one good afternoon.
Most community programs run one direction. Someone gives, someone receives, everybody goes home. This didn’t. The residents got company. The people who came got stories, perspective, and a couple of hours where they weren’t the most interesting person in the room.
That exchange is the whole design. It’s why we do this one community at a time rather than as many as we can fit in.
Our team arrives together. We bring cookies. Then we sit down and stay a while.
Conversation, mostly. Residents talk, our team listens, and nobody is watching the clock.
Dogs, if there are dogs. For residents who have a dog of their own, our Pet Care Specialists are glad to take them out for a walk while we’re there. That part is always handled by Urban Tails employees. We don’t bring animals with us — the visit isn’t about our dogs, it’s about your residents.
Everyone who comes works here. W-2 employees, insured and trained, all 18 and over — and every one of them signed up for the afternoon.
Generations in the same room, on purpose. We hear a lot about older adults being lonely; we hear less about how many younger adults are. Residents get the company, our team gets the stories, and nobody is quite sure who comes out ahead.
Free, always. Just good company.
Anyone can nominate — a resident, a family member, an activity director, a neighbor who drives past every day.
We visit: independent living and retirement communities in Edmond and Northwest Oklahoma City.
We don’t visit, for now: assisted living or memory care communities. Those residents deserve this too, and they need a program built for them specifically. We’d rather do that properly later than do it badly now.
Two minutes. We read every nomination personally, and we’ll be in touch either way.
Premium membership-based pet care for Edmond and OKC neighborhoods. W-2 employees. GPS-documented visits. Unmatched standards.
